Exchange Server 2007 says no activation, yet it claims there are 103 days left till activation.
I am a student, and am doing a final project for my capstone. We are not connected to the internet, just putting together a simulated network. I have, for the purposes of this message, 2 servers.....server "A" which has AD, DNS, DHCP, and server "B", which has Exchange 2007. Both are running Server 2008 Enterprise. I set my network up Friday night, and everything worked great. I came in for class Saturday morning, and server "B" wouldn't work. It said Exchange Server 2007 has no activation, yet it claims there are 103 days left till activation. Server "B"'s server 2008 was down to nothing re: activation. I activated server "B" but the school can not locate an activation code for me for Exchange 2007. EVEN IF THEY COULD, the process says to open Exchange Manager, go to server configuration, choose the server, and then select "enter product key" in the actions pane. Well....."enter product key" isn't even a CHOICE in the actions pane. But certain snap-ins and mmc's are shut down, and it won't let me start the "information store" and "system attendant" services. I seem to think that there's a dll file I need to clear out after having activated Server 2008 on server "B" but I could be wrong. I only have 2 weeks till capstone presentations, and am desperate. Can anyone PLEASE HELP?????????????????????????????????????????

There is an activation for Windows but no activation for Exchange. There is just a license key for Exchange. If you are just planning on having 120 days worth of lab work you dont need to bother putting a license key into Exchange. If you still want it after 120 days you can do so but, I seem to recall, you get knocked back to the standard edition features rather than enterprise. The nag screen comes up every time you start the EMC. If there is simply no place for you to enter a license key in Exchange theres a good chance that you have just got the 32bit version of Exchange 2007 running which is the perfect thing for the lab. Can you check http://exchangepedia.com/2007/01/how-to-add-a-license-key-to-exchange-server-2007.html which is the correct steps and includes the PowerShell commands. If you cant enter it using these steps I would be pretty certain you have the 32bit lab only, non production, test version. Thats, as I said, more than fine for anything you want to do. If I remember correctly the nag screen is just there in EMC and is nothing to worry about. "Bill Deegan" wrote in message news:c9aadd2a-3acf-4fdd-9df2-ba7c660cba02... This should identify which servers have had there product key entered: get-exchangeserver | ft name, productid To register the server's product key: Set-ExchangeServer -Identity ExServer01 -ProductKey aaaaa-aaaaa-aaaaa-aaaaa-aaaaa Then (if the machine's a mailbox server): net stop msexchangeis net start msexchangeis >But certain snap-ins and mmc's are shut >down, and it won't let me start the "information store" and "system attendant" services. > >I seem to think that there's a dll file I need to clear out after having activated Server 2008 on server "B" but I could be wrong. I am running the 32-bit. Problem is, when Server 2008 de-activated on my exchange server, it kicked off certain snap-ins and mmc's that are vital to running exchange. I can't start information store....i can't start system attendant.....heck, opening Exchange Management Console even fails!!!

Hi, If you don’t activate Exchange 2007, there should be 103 days left to use. By the way, have you activated OS of server A and server B? ThanksSophia Xu

Hi, Do you have any update? ThanksSophia Xu

You dont activate Exchange 2007. The customer already said, in this same thread, that they are running the 32bit lab/non production version so theres no place to enter a key in the application . The only thing to activate, as Sophia says, is the OS. Unless you are going to keep the Exchange server up for more than the 120 days you might as well not bother activating the OS either. Its just a nag screen and wont hurt anything you are trying to prove out in the lab. Obviously when you are ready to move to production you will have the 64bit versions with license keys and all will be well. "Sophia Xu" wrote in message news:ee769fec-2f5b-4ff1-87bb-f730eb7fedfb...
