Exchange Server 2007 SP1 x64 and the x86 issue backup
Hi People,i post today an important issue. If you use an X64 OS and Exchange Server 07Sp1 x64, you will encounter a serious problem becuase if you need to backup your mailboxes from your AD Domain there's no way to do it in this arquitecture. Imagine this: You have a crash in the system and need to reinstall the OS, there any kind of backup. Except Having the DPM 07 SP1 in another machine making it Email Server. Of course is a better way to keep the things running smoothly, but imagine you dont have. In order to backup the emails appointments and so on, the items that makes partof users session, you must export the mailbox using the power shell export command, but this ONLY WORKS IN WINx86(32BIT) platform, same OS, same Exchange Server 07. This only happens because Office 2007 suite is working only in x86, so you need to install outlook 07, before exec the cmd, because exch uses outlook dll's to export into PST format. Which means Outlook's Personal folder format. The Other way is to backup your own database, that contains all mailboxes and so on. But only using Symantec Backup Exec 12.5, of course it's not a perfect copy, because you could enconter serious errors when recover the database to eXCHANGE server database main installation path.So in review to make backups we see...1.You must use x86 platforms, in order to backup and restore mailboxes(import and export exchange cmd). (we return back) which is bad. because most apps is running full 64 bit.(x86 platform)2. Use 2 or more servers, using DPM 2007 Sp1(X64 platform)3.Use symantec backup exec which his signature could not make the restore correctly. (x64 platform)If you want to export your Mailboxes and import them, you must wait until OFFIce 2007 for 64 bit become available. I'm a right?RegardsPortugal

Hi,The option above doesn't work. So, i recently had knowledge, that will be available Wednesday, (today in Portugal) maybe at3h PM, Lisbon Time, EXCHANGE SERVER 14 Beta will be public for ITs to download. So, that kind of problems will be erased as so as the 32bit limit for backing up the mailboxes usin' PowerShell, as you might not know, will become available OFFICE 14 in 64bit EDition, so if they not integrate that possibility, we could use the Outlook Dll's in 64 bit format to extract the mailboxes in order to backing up, without retreat to prevoius arquitechture. This is Excelent Good News for us!I hope you enjoy it the news.Regards from PT Marco Enxuto
