Exchange Server 2007 Management Tools (32-Bit) SP1 Upgrade Problem
I am currently trying to update a Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-Bit x86) machine from Exchange Server 2007 Management Tools (32-Bit) RTM to SP1. Our Exchange setup consists of 3 servers, 1 is running all the roles (sp1 installed) and the other 2 are used for management tools only (sp1 successfully installed on one of these servers). However, keep running into the following error after I select "next" on the Introduction screen "Unable to access the registry to retrieve the language identifier information." Any ideas??? According to RegMon these are the last registry keys that the upgrade process is trying to Read/Access before it fails. If you haven't resolved this issue yet, I thought I'd respond as I was having the same problems and managed to work my way through it. The machine that I was attempting to upgrade a Management Tools only installation was also running a third party software firewall. As soon as I stopped the firewall and tried the upgrade again, I was successful! So if you're running a firewall product of any sort on the offending machine, stop it, upgrade your management tools, and then start the firewall back up again. Erik

Hi To solve this problem you need to add the following value to the registry on the server: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Server Language Here is my setting, in the form of a REG file: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange]"Server Language"=dword:00000409 As you can see I run an English version of Exchange 2007 Server. You need to restart Exchange setup for this change to take effect, since it is checked early in the process. I had this problem both when trying to remove the Management Tools and when trying to upgrade them to Exchange Service Pack 1. Morgan

That worked for me. Use a Dword value, hexidecimal ... (and make sure you have a space in Server Language). Thanks.
