Exchange Server 2007 Client Access Role on Windows Server 2008
I know - the subject is a mouthful. Regardless, I have been able to install all parts of the "standard" Exchange 2007 (SP1 Beta 1) on my Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 machine. However, when I try to add the "Client Access Role", it fails with the following message:
Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed. Elapsed time: 00:00:21
Client Access RoleFailed
Error:An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory 'IIS://SERVER2008.testdomain.local/W3SVC/1/ROOT/owa' on 'SERVER2008'.
The data is invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000D)
Elapsed Time: 00:00:21
Does anyone have any ideas how to get around this? I am assuming the error is the result of Exchange 2007 not being able to cooperate with IIS7, but it seems silly that Microsoft would allow this to happen. Though I suppose that's what "BETA" means, right?
Other than OWA and OMA not working though, everything seems to be up and functioning, so I suppose I cannot complain *too* much.

You have to wait for later builds of both Exchange and Windows until the installation can run smoothly

2007 SP1 beta 2 has just been released. Maybe that would be worth a try as it is supposed to be feature complete.

Hi,
Not yet, but I am going to be trying this in the next couple of days and will get back to you.
I might use a slightly later build of 2008 Server though, the June CTP.
Cheers
Nathan

Thankyou for the prompt reply. I am also using the June CTP, sorry i forgot to mention. I have tested on several occassions but always come to the same point where it fails.
Cheers

Hi,
I have spoken to a few people at MS today.
Basically, this is a problem with the Build of Server 2008 that we have.
It is fixed in a later build but there is not much we can do until then.
Sorry
Nathan

Hello all,
Today I've installed Windows 2008 and Exchange 2007 SP1. For me there where the same problem as discribed above.
What I did is install the complete features of IIS 7.0
For the installation of the exchange 2007 I've select a costum installation:
- first I've installed the hub transport - and the the mailbox server role
- afterwards I've installed the client access server role without any problem.
Now everything works fine without any problems.

What build of Server 2008 are you running? I heard a rumor that it was resolved in RC0 but havent confirmed.
