Exchange Server 2003 Stops Responding
I have Exchange Server 2003 running on Windows Server 2003 - all updates are installed. My Server stops responding daily and needs a cold reboot. Nothing strange in the event logs. Can't find the problem.Any ideas on where to start looking? Or, has anyone experienced anything similar to this. Usually OWA stops responding before the server locks up.Thanks for any help,Sharon

Hi Sharon,From the symptoms, look like server is affected from SNP feature of Windows 2003 SP2.Windows 2003 Scalable Networking pack and its possible effects on Exchangehttp://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/07/18/446400.aspxCheck and make sure that below update is installed to disable SNP features...An update to turn off default SNP features is available for Windows Server 2003-based and Small Business Server 2003-based computershttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/948496Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi,Yes, please check it as Amit suggested. At the same time, please download ExBPA to have a health check for the Exchange Server. Meanwhile, please use Microsoft Update website to make sure you have installed all latest updates. Thanks,Elvis

Hey Sharon,Did you install KB948496and checked the situation? If so, I would suggest you to update NIC driver and firmware from vendor's site.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Yep. I installed KB948496 and nothing. The server freezes about twice a day. Our organization has been upgrading the users to Office 2007. Will using Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2003 have issues? I will do as you suggest regarding the NIC and firmware. Thanks for your help!Sharon
