Exchange Policy retention tags
Scenario: Set up a RPT for the Inbox folder to Delete and Allow Recovery for all items over 180 days. When an email meets the retention period and is moved into the Recoverable Items Folder does the email get a new time stamp? I want items to be moved into the Recoverable Items Folder for 30 days and then set a RPT on the folder its self to Permanently Delete all items older than 30 days. So I am not sure if I should set the policy Age limit for retention to 30 days or 180 + 30 since I do not know how the time stamp works. I did read how the policy tag is removed and the new folders retention policy will apply but nothing mentions if the countdown clock is reset. If I am wrong in my assumption and set the Recoverable Items Folder action to Permanently Delete after 30 days than all emails that are moved into the folder with a 180 day date time stamp will immediately be permanently deleted. On the flip side of the coin I could end up retaining email in the Recoverable Items Folder for an extra 120 days. Does anyone know for usre? In advance thank you for any replies!Fred Sawyer MCP

Too Confused I guess. -- You set a Retention of "Delete and Allow Recovery" 180 Days. -- It will look for a Delivery Time of Message - Older than 180 - Moves to Dumpster. -- Then It Stays in Dumpster for 14 Days by Default and its gets deleted The Dumpster settings can be adjusted on the database Level. Get-Mailboxdatabase "Db name" | Fl == permanently Delete after 180 days -- Its Gone -- Nothing can be done !Satheshwaran Manoharan | Exchange 2003/2007/2010/2013 | Blog:http://www.careexchange.in | Please mark it as an answer if it really helps you ------------- I do not represent the organisation I work for, all the opinions expressed here are my own. Hi, The retention age of mailbox items is calculated from the date of delivery. >>If I am wrong in my assumption and set the Recoverable Items Folder action to Permanently Delete after 30 days than all emails that are moved into the folder with a 180 day date time stamp will immediately be permanently deleted. Yes, these emails will be permanently deleted, because it recalculate the expiration date based on the message delivery date. You can know more detail from this document: How Retention Age is Calculated http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb430780.aspx Thanks, Evan Liu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tnmff@microsoft.com Evan Liu TechNet Community Support
