Exchange Online (365) Merge users with Exchange 2013 on premise

Hello,

just to give you some more information, Contoso is looking to Merge with Fabrikam

Contoso uses Exchange 2013 and has over 70+ users

Fabrikam has around 10 users and they use exchange online with Office 365.

Fabrikam is looking to merge its smaller user base into Contoso larger domain.

Fabrikam also uses Lync 2013 and SharePoint 2013 as part of there 365 subscription however this is initially focusing on Exchange.

Initially I thought about creating new AD & mailbox's for all the Fabrikam users then having them export there mailbox as a PST file and import them into our Exchange system.

I have also noticed exchange online has the migration feature which allows you to migrate from exchange online to on-premise however does the exchange environment need to be in hybrid deployment to allow this?

ideally if anyone had any suggestions to get my started it would be a great help

Many Thanks

Gordon

Yes, moving from EO to Exchange on-prem is only for Hybrid. For just 10 users, do it via PST export/import I guess.

Hi,

As additional to Michev, we must have configured a hybrid deployment between on-premises and Exchange Online organizations to complete the mailbox moves procedures.
We can follow steps in below link to move Exchange Online mailboxes to the on-premises Exchange 2013 organization:

So you can go into Hybrid deployment with 2 seperate company's? between separate domains? another potential requirement would be that Fabrikam continue to use there existing 0365 online but emails appear to come from Contoso

Options:

- PST export of users from cloud to on prem.

- Setup hybrid from cloud to on prem and migrate users down (Offboarding)

O365 supports multiple domains to a single tenant and single domain to multiple tenants. http://blogs.technet.com/b/educloud/archive/2013/08/02/multi-forest-and-multi-tenant-scenarios-with-office-365.aspx

Hi there,

Use something like MigrationWiz or Skykick to move the mailboxes and have both companies merged onto one email platform.

If the users are happy with PST exports and imports, and more importantly the people making the decisions are - then you can do that also.

Just ensure you setup the on-premise infrastructure correctly for those users email addresses as I am guessing the domains differ. You will also have to move the MX records.

You do not want to even waste time on a hybrid configuration for moving 10 users - the pain of setting it all up when we are talking about two seperate companies isn't worth the time, energy, hassle or money!
