Exchange Migration
We currently are running Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 server. We would like to migrate exchange to one of our other Windows 2003 servers. We already have exchange 2003 installed on the new server. Now we are trying to find good documents that explains step by step how to migrate Exchange to the new server. We know there are several ways. We know that you can just move individual mailboxes or perform the forklift procedure. We just are sure of the specifics for both procedures.

There are several ways to do this. One way would have been to follow the procedures here: How to Move Exchange Server 2003 to New Hardware and Keep the Same Server Namehttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997176%28EXCHG.65%29.aspx But since you already have installed a new Exchange server you should go on and move mailboxes, public folders and so on to the new server. Now I see that Daniel Petri recommends this approach: How to move Exchange 2003 to new hardwareThe best method would be to install a new server, move mailboxes, replicate PFs, address other issues. Then disconnect the old server for a few days, see if anyone yells bloody murder. If not, uninstall it and remove the server from the domain.http://www.petri.co.il/forums/showthread.php?t=6031 Here you find a fairly detailed description and a lot of troubleshooting tips: Migrating to a New Exchange 2000/2003 Server - Swing MigrationAuthor: Simon Butler, Exchange MVP, MCSELast Page Review: 08/12/2009http://www.amset.info/exchange/migration.asp Simon Butler refers to this article, make also sure you understand it:How to remove the first Exchange Server 2003 computer from the administrative grouphttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/822931/en-usMCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M | Small Business Specialist
