Exchange Management Shell not working!
Hi, I have Exchange 2007 SP3 running on Server 2008 R2 (x64). Unfortunately, I can't seem to launch the EMS - it flashes on screen for a second, then disappears. EMC (and everything else, for that matter) works perfectly. There are no errors generated in the event logs. Thanks in advance.

I see that you are on 2007 SP3 and Server 2008 R2. Was this a fresh install, or an upgrade install? Has it ever worked? If so, when did it stop working? Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Hi Tim, It was a fresh install. I had issues installing the CAS role on the server, but I solved it by running the setup in Vista compatibility mode. I then ran SP3. Alas, I never checked the EMS between initial install and the SP install. Everything else is fine though, emails/OWA/IIS working etc. Do you think I will have to reinstall? (hope not!)

Doubt this is the problem but have you tried right clicking and selecting run as administrator?

My guess is that it has never worked and the fact that you had to run the install in Vista compatibility mode bothers me. My quesion is why did you do an upgrade of Exchange on Windows 2008 R2 instead of installing Exchange 2007 SP3 from the start? If you have had issues from the beginning, my suggestion would be to start over and install SP3 from the beginning.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

"Stupid question but can u run the windows powershell? is it working? can u try then to manualy add the powershell module to it?" Yes, Powershell does run OK. "My guess is that it has never worked and the fact that you had to run the install in Vista compatibility mode bothers me. Alas MS have not yet released a Exchange 2007 SP3 disc/full file (as opposed to a service pack upgrade). So to get Exchange 2007 to run on 2008 R2, you have to install Exchange, then upgrade to SP3 to ensure full compatability. Installing 2007 on R2 can cause issues when you get to the CAS role, which you have to run in Vista compatibility mode (found the answer to that one here in Technet Forums). It seems that I have an issue with the install, so I think I'm going to have to just remove and reinstall Exchange and Powershell. Thanks for your thoughts.

You are right Tim. I had to rebuild and used just SP3 and it worked perfectly. It's a shame M$ didn't put that sentence at the top in bold! Many thanks for your assistance.
