Exchange Management Console Shows Wrong Service Pack for Mailbox Server
We are currently running Exchange 2010 SP2. Anyway, when I open the Exchange Management Console and click Server Configuration it shows all of our servers are running Exchange Version 14.2 (Build 247.5) except for one of the mailbox servers. For that server it shows Version 14.1 (Build 218.15)     (Indicating it has SP1 on it).

When I go to that server, it shows Update Rollup 6 for SP2 is installed. Additionally I compared the version for the store.exe for the two mailbox servers and they both match (14.2.342.2). I'm guessing Active Directory has the wrong version listed for this server. Is there a safe way to update it? Thanks!

Hi

If the Mailbox Server is SP1, you can upgrade it to SP2 safely

Because according to the order for upgrading Exchange 2010 server roles.

  • Client Access
  • Hub Transport
  • Unified Messaging
  • Mailbox

Mailbox Server is in last order.

But that is what I'm saying. It is already upgraded to SP2. Active Directory just doesn't reflect that. Should I run the SP2 upgrade again on the MBX server?

What if you login to the wrong SP server, launch EMC and Help (top menu) -> About Exchange 2010.

What is the version there?

Was the server restarted after SP2 install?

On MBX-02 (The server AD claims is SP1) it shows "Version: 14.02.0342.003" when I do Help-> About Exchange 2010 in the EMC.

Yes. The server has been rebooted many times since we installed SP2 (A couple of months ago). I didn't spot the version difference until today.

Thanks!

You can upgread SP1 to SP2 on your MBX Server if it is confirmed that MBX Server is now SP1

It has SP2 on it. Active Directory thinks it has SP1.

Should I try to upgrade it to SP2 again?

I didn't ask for the requirements to install the Service Pack..........

I asked, the computer already believes SP2 is installed for Exchange 2010. Active Directory believes this Exchange server only has SP1. Should I just run the installer for SP2 for Exchange 2010 again and see if this fixes Active Directory?

Why not update to the latest version SP3 together? Because It is hard to say it will cause any trouble if you run the same SP2 upgrade twice.
