Exchange Management Console
Is there a way to 'view' the EMC in the same hierarchal format as ADUC? The way EMC is laid out makes it difficult and time consuming to make even minor changes. Any update on allowing Exchange level changes in ADUC again? That was exceptionally useful for us SMB admins. Thanks, OCH

Cut down the EMC navigation time by using powershell

As far as I see it Exchange MAnagement Shell is the primary tool for Exchange management, If you know cmdlets you can make any change quite fast. If you are asking about SMB (as I understand companies that have Small Business server) you an do several things via Small Bussines Server Console. I have not heard about any planned changes in the layout of EMC With kind regards Krystian Zieja http://www.projectnenvision.com Follow me on twitter My Blog

So, for us non-script writing IT folks, we're stuck using the painful EMC console?

By SMB I meant Small / Medium Businesses. Businesses that can't afford specialized IT personnel but have a small group cover varied technologies. As I don't really know scripting, the EMC is a giant step backwards functionally. Thanks for the response.

Acctually EMC is just a GUI for EMS cmd-lets I know that learning them can be a little bit painfull but it will payback in the future. Also keep in mind that microsoft is moving many of their products to be managed by PowerShell. It is hard to tell me about the prices in US for IT administrators, but at least in Poland small specialized in IT companies are not too expensive. With kind regards Krystian Zieja http://www.projectnenvision.com Follow me on twitter My Blog

Hi, Agree with Krystian. It is by design that EMC is time-consuming except easy learning. And EMS can execute all operations but EMC only for most. Besides, Exchange development team needs to consider all types of company. Many large companies need to divide the permissions between domain admins and Exchange admins. ADUC is the logical representation of your AD tree and you like it the most because it is very similar to a directory tree on a file system. EMC has been created with a different approach since the server infrastructure is made up not only of nested containers, BUT if you approach it in the right way I'm sure it becomes more user friendly. Remeber always that the containers are organized in: Organization configuration Server configuration Recipient configuration So it's still a hierarchical. If you need to change the configuration just ask yourself "where do I need to apply changes?". Simply answering the question you will quickly find the way in EMC, of course some knowledge on server roles is required. I remember when I started to use the console I needed to look through the whole tree bofore finding what I was looking for, with that simple approach it makes a huge difference and if you try it, I'm sure you will like EMC a lot more too. Also consider the EMC is always the same regardless how complex and big the Exchange infrastructure could be, that's not true with ADUC, it can become huge even in a small environment.
