Exchange Mail Sending issue
Hi I currently have a SBS 2008 server with exchange up and running. My exchange server uses the pop connector to collect mail from the ISP. I manage the domain myself. there are currently 10 mailboxes on the server and 2 users have pop mailboxes from the same ISP and domain on their local PCs. they don't sit in the same office as where the exchange server is This is my problem: The exchange server collects mail via pop3 and it appears in the 10 clients mailboxes. The 2 external users collect their mail from the ISP using pop3 on their PCs from the same domain. When the users in the office try to send mail to the external users, the exchange server looks for the mailboxes locally on the server and because they are not present, the mail simply fails to deliver. i.e. person1 in office "person1@abc123.com sends mail to external user "external1@abc123.com" the exchange server looks for external1@abc123.com local because the domain is configured on the server as abc123.com causing it to fail the delivery. How do I allow the mail message to be sent regardless of the domain.

The exchange server collects mail via pop3 and it appears in the 10 clients mailboxes. The 2 external users collect their mail from the ISP using pop3 on their PCs from the same domain. The 2 external users mailbox are hosted on Exchange? The question is a bit confusing, but in order to send emails to external recipient, you need to configure a send connector to internet. Thanks for the reply. The two mailboxes are not hosted on exchange. The issue is that the ISP hosts the mailboxes and the server collects each mailbox's mail with the pop3 connector. that works great. the two additional mailboxes are hosted with the same ISP and Outlook that's loaded on the external client computers collects mail with outlook's POP3 connector. the domain names are the same for both clients but when a mail is sent from a client from the exchange server the server does not send the mail, instead its trying to resolve the external mailboxes locally, even though they dont exist on the server. The server sees the domain names being the same and then does not try to send the mail, it fails. i will have a look and the send connector too. Thanks again

Hi, Please ensure the domain is not set to authoritative domain. You can change it to internal relay domain. Quite common issue in the SBS word.
