Exchange Log Files
Hello Please advise, I have Echange 2007 Std. installed in Win 2008 Std. My exhcnge edb file is 5GB, but there are logs file from the day i installed the exchnge 2007. The logs file have taken up half the avalable free space of the HDD and at the current rate the HDD willh have no free space within a year. The only files on this HDD is the Win & Exhange files and the exchange database. How do i safely remove the exchange log file? Zakaria Khan

Sounds like you have not been taking any Full backups of your database. If you have at least 2007 SP2, then you can use the server backup utility that is on Server 2008 to run a full backup on that database, which will clear the logs. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee221177%28EXCHG.80%29.aspx I would recommend against enabling circular logging if it is a production database. If not then feel free to flip that switch. http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2010/08/18/455857.aspx DJ Grijalva | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | www.persistentcerebro.com

Hi, You should use Backup Software to take a backup for the Exchange database, then the log files older than the .Chk file will be removed automatically. Thanks AllenAllen Song

yes, backup is the primary option, use my solution to temporarily free up space if you are unable to take backup or backup is not purging logs Dhruv || Email - Polaris_1942@hotmail.com
