Exchange Loadgen has no impact on the performance counters
Hi, I need to simulate traffic forsmtp,pop3 and imap protocols for exchange server 2007. For thisiinstalled loadgen.Loadgen had the options to simulatefor these protocols. So I configured the simulation for these protocols with different set of users for each protocol. The simulation starts andI see theinbox being filled. I have a fewproblems in this : When the simulation is going on I openedupperfmon tool and monitored a few exchange counter objects. I could see that only for MSExchangeTransportSmtpReceive counter object, the counter values for Bytes Receieved Total Bytes Received/Sec were changing. For all the other exchange peformance counters, the simulation had no impact on the values. Few other counters I monitored were, MSExchangeTransportSmtpSend => Bytes Sent Total , Bytes Sent/Sec MSExchangeImap4 => Current Connections MSExchangePop3 => Connections Current Why is that the values for these counters doesn't change when the simulation is going on ? And for the smtp simulation ( configured loadgen to simulate users) I couldn't see any messages in the sent items folder though messages were simulated in the inbox folder. i configured the simulation to send messages to users within the same domain. I need to use the values of the performance counters when the simulation is going on. So please help me out. Thanks in advance Subramanian.

If you use the default scripts then I recommend to decrease the sleep timeout in the script. I did a test with IMAP and initially also had a connection count of 0, but after decreasing the sleep timer the connection count was non zero. The SMTP module does not use Outlook to send emails. This is comparable to using telnet and typing the SMTP protocol commands. Therefore, you do not see the emails that your LoadGen users have sent. You only see the emails in the inbox of the recipients.
