Exchange Information Store Service Stuck During Shutdown
Running a Win2003 Server as a DC with Exchange and the machine is supposed to be rebooting but it has been trying for about 4 hours now. It seems that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is stuck shutting down (shows as shutting down in the services). I can no longer actually TS into the box, but I can connect to it to manage it using computer management. Any suggestions? Exchange definately isn't running since I know I can't open my email, but I don't want to go in and physically shut down the machine and risk corrupting the store.

Hi This issue may occur if the Exchange IS service is being used by other applications and cannot be stopped currently. If you are afraid of corrupting the Exchange store by physically shutting down the Exchange server, I suggest you use MMC and logon to that Exchange server remotely from other server and open the Event viewer to see if there is anything wrong regarding the Exchange IS service. If possible, also consider to install Process Explorer tool on the Exchange server to track the Store.exe to see what process or dll is infecting Exchange IS service. Hope this helps.
