Exchange GAL, My contacts in Outlook
We have Exchange 2010 Environment and we had a user ask why the Global address list contacts are not listed under her My contacts in Outlook. She can see them in the address book icon but not in my contacts. She wants them to be in a separate folder the contacts that she has created. How come she cant see them do I need an address book policy in exchange? I don't want all my users to see this as they are used to going through the exchange address book icon.

That is how it works in Outlook - the GAL is in the Address book dialog, not in Contacts. If she wants to create contacts, she can select one or more and right click, choosing Add to Outlook contacts.

Hi   Nellyj0

Thank you for your question.

GAL is stored in AD and contact is stored in mailbox. when you contract with somebody, the contact will add to contact .

You can also manually add contact from GAL to the contact.

If there are any questions, please let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim

Diane is correct. If you want to automatically sync the GAL to iPhone and Outlook users on Exchange, you will need to add that capability to your environment.

Also review this blog post about best practices to sync the GAL to smartphones.
