Exchange Fails To Deliver Emails With .msg file
All our outgoingemails with attachments (pdf, doc, etc..)encapsulated within a .msg file are all sitting in the ms exchange queue list and failed to be delivered to the intended recipent. I was able to: 1. SendOutgoingemails with no attachment.OK 2. Send outgoing emails withany other attachments, pdf doc, xls..etc.OK 3. Send outgoing emails with .msg file, but no file inside theattachment. OK But for some reason, once the email with .msg file has within an attachment, it do not get pass the exchange queue and will retry for 3 days until it finally gave up. I have contacted our ISP several times and there is no filtering from their end. Also I was able to send the exact emails direct via SMTP and it works fine on the receiving end. Does anyone have any idea what this might be the cause of the problem? thanks in advance rgds, Clifford

Hi Clifford, 1. Please firstly let me know whether it is an Exchange 2003 environment or Exchange 2007 environment? 2. Please let me know which queue the email hangs. If the message hangs in the Remote delivery queue: a. Please click the queue to review the Additional Queue Information when the Queue is in Retry mode. This information is located at the bottom of the right pane (for Exchange 2003). b. Please check the Last Error in the Remote delivery queue Nevertheless, if the email hangs in other queues, please let me know. 3. I also suggest that you temporarily disable your anti-virus software to troubleshoot the issue. Mike

Hi Mike, thanks. Yes. This is in an Exchange 2003 environment. This message hangs in the Remote delivery queue. There was no Additional Queue Information foundat the bottom of right pane..the bottom right pane only shows "Settings" and "Help. Also I have uninstall symantec antivirus on my desktop PC running Outlook, and rebooted, same problem occurs. btw, there is no anti virus software installed on the exchange 2003 server. thanks for your help rgds,. I've just tested using outlook Web access and it works perfectly alright. I think it has something to do with the Outlook client that might scramble garbage before delivering to exchange queue. I wonder if this is something a hotfix will be able to fix? clifford

Hi Clifford, At this time, I suggest that you enable Message Tracking to troubleshoot the issue: 1. Enable Message Tracking 2. After that, please send a problem message again 3. Then, post the Message Tracking information here Mike

Hi Clifford, 1. Please check whether the latest NIC driver update has been installed on your Exchange Server. 2. You can create a new Virtual Directory to troubleshoot the issue. 3. Please also increate the Diagnostic Logging of MSExchagneTransport/SMTP Protocol to maximum to check whether any further information can be retrieved from Event Log. 4. If the latest NIC driver update has been installed and new Virtual Directory cannot solve the issue, please let me know your outgoing topology and help me gather the SMTP log (set as NCSA log format) for further research. Please send two outgoing messages (one can be sent out with no issue and one will be retried) and post the two logs information for the two messages here. Mike
