Exchange Distribution Groups not updating in Active Directory

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is intended behaviour or not, but any distribution group we create in Exchange ECP does not update in Active Directory Users and Computers. Any particular reason why?

For example, we have a user group called "Managers" and we've recently created a new group called Area Managers. We've since moved some people out of Managers and put them in Area Managers, however in Active Directory all we see is the Managers group with all the old managers in there. The OU for the Area Managers group has been set corr

Hi Zach,

How many DCs \ Sites do you have.

Please check if active directory replication is fine. Normally it might take upto 60mins - 3hrs depending upon the environment.

Run the below Exchange Shell command to verify the OU\DN of the Groups targetting particular DC:

Get-DistributionGroup -Identity "Marketing Reports" -ReadFromDomainController DC1 | Format-Table Name, ManagedBy, distinguishedName
Then track it back on the same DC1 using ADUC.

Hi Zach,

Did you try the powershell command to list the DN of the DLs.

What level of access do you have on the Domain Controller\Domain.

Hi,

Please run the following command to confirm the members of two groups.

Get-DistributionGroupMember -Identity Area Managers

Get-DistributionGroupMember -Identity Managers

I also suggest to remove the member from Managers in AD then check the members of Managers in EAC to check this problem.

Best Regards.

We've found the source of the problem!

By default distribution groups added via Exchange ECP are placed in a different OU to the desired OU. They are actually being replicated to Active Directory just we couldn't find them because they weren't being placed in the desired OU. For future reference, we'll manually choose an OU rather than accepting default settings! Thanks everyone for the help a

Hi Zach,

Guess that is what I meant when I said.
