Exchange Disaster Recovery - Outlook Profile Redirection
Hi All, I wonder if you could help me fix the last piece in the DR puzzle. Environment: Exchange 2003 - 2 servers - 1 primary, 1 DR server (remote site). I'm testing DR. 1. Exchange stopped on primary site. 2. Databases/Logs successfully transferred to the DR server, Exchange started at remote site. 3. AD modified to reflect changes in the mailbox location 4. DNS modified to point to DR server if calling primary server 5. New Outlook profile can login to the mailbox on the DR server Life is beatiful... However, I would expect "old" Outlook profiles to connect to the DR server just fine (DNS got changed, I can ping primary server from the client and DR one responds), but it does not work... When I am trying to connect to the "old" profile, I keep get prompted for credentials... Does anybody know what I'm missing? Thank you in advance, Victor

How do you install your DR Exchange server? Do you use setup /disasterrecover? If don't do that I am not sure if your scenario can work? Exchange 2007 in combination with Outlook 2007 support this type of recovery (Database Portability) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123954.aspx Deli

Thank you for the reply... I'm pretty familiar with Exchange DR scenarios and my scenario does work - I can create the Outlook profile to point to the DR server and the user can connect to the mailbox... My question is: how to get "old" Outlook profile to recognize the mailbox re-location to DR server? I'm pretty sure, it is possible, but can't figure out what I'm missing... Thank you, Victor

In my knowledge Outlook only tries to relocate to another server if it can still contact the old server (like when you do a mailbox move) You did not tell me if your DR server has the same name as the original server, because otherwise your out of options Or you need to recreate profiles automatically with something like profgen.exe Deli

Yes DR server has a different name... Well, I'm pretty sure you don't need to re-create profile... A lot of DR Software vendors (Double Take one of them I used) claimed that you don't need to change anything in Outlook Profiles when you execute the DR plan...

I am pretty sure that Double Take uses the same servername Deli
