i have exchange 2010 SP3 installed and it's working fine i need to migrate to exchange 2013

i did manage to install exchange 2013 CU1 any update after that fails with the same error message.

Please open a command prompt as administrator on the DC and prepare the AD schema using the following command from a run-as-administrator command prompt:

setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
setup.exe /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

If the issue persists, please try to post relevant log and ExchangeSetup.log without sensitive information for further troubleshooting.

Can you check what setup logs says in C:\SetupLog file. Please check the bottom part of this file.

So finally I recommend you follow the steps below for troubleshooting:

1. Open ADSIEdit on the domain controller.

2. Go to Configuration, CN=Services, CN=Microsoft Exchange, CN=<Your Site Name>. Right click CN=Client Access and click properties. 

3. Scroll down and see if there exists msExchCanaryData0 Attribute. If yes, click edit and copy the data from Data0, Data1 and Data2 (you may have more or less) to a notepad file. Then erase the data from those settings. 
(Note: It's a great idea to take a system state backup before performing these steps as editing ADSI data is risky.)

4. Restart the Mailbox Server and continue to install the update.

i did try that with no lock can't install any CU or SP 1 on the serve

OK so the problem was that someone has moved The exchange security groups UO to a different OU in AD once i moved them back under the root domain the install was successful
