Exchange Backup
I have a Exchange 2003 running on Server 2003, I'm using the NTBackUp tool to make a BackUp of the Exchange. When I make the backup on the same harddisk were exchange is install it does it with no problem, only that I cannot copy these backup tono anywere else. But when I try to make the backup on an external disk when it gets up to 4 Gb it gives me the error that it cannot copy more then 5 Gb, that the disk has to be NTFS. I asure my self that the external disk was NTFS and had about 100 Gb of free space but still gives me the same error. So I could only make backups on the same drive but I cannoy copy does backups to anywere else.Is there a way to make these types of backup to an external disk?

Hello, Is it an external USB drive? It may have come factory pre formatted as FAT32. I would check it out and make sure. The maximum file size for FAT32 is 4 GB. You can also get third party backup utilities that spread the data across several file < 4 GB each. MiguelMiguel Fra / Falcon ITS Computer & Network Support, Miami, FL

What's the error message? Is the file locked? Does the user you are logged in with have permission? Where are you copying it to? Is disk quota set on the server? Does the user have a disk quota limit on the NTFS volume? Have you checked the system and application logs? What errors do you get? Hi, In my view, it does not seems to be your exchange server configuration related issue. It seems either your account permission, permission on machine, permission on the hard disk. We may try these steps. 1. Check Application log and System Log for any recent Exchange Related , Ntback related or Permission related errors. If yes, Fix it. 2. Make sure your account has Local machine admin, Domain admin, Exchange Full Admin Rights ( Just to make sure no issues with Permission) 3. Make sure you try to backup using this method http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-2003-Backup-Restore-NTBACKUP.html All the Best :) ----------------------------------------- Sathish Kumar Elango, MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging http://msexchangehelp.wordpress.com
