Exchange Archiving server deployment
Hi All, I have two mailbox servers in DAG cluster, now the new requirement from the management is to configure the archiving for only 20 users. I could create a new database and put the archiving in that one but unfortunately i do not have enough space the current space is already for the current future users and the current solution was not designed for the archiving solution. I have one old server with enough space for 20 users' archiving solution on which i can install exchange 2010 with Windows 2008 R2 but the problem is that if that server will also a mailbox role then i have to include that server in a DAG that means i have to give the same storage space which i have on the existing DAG servers. My question is that is it possible to have the archiving server separately and it should not act as a DAG but a single mailbox server which is used only for archiving. this will save my storage capacity other wise i have to buy a new storage and every thing. It doesn't have to be included in the DAG. Where did you get that idea from? As long as you are on Exchange 2010 SP1 for both servers the archive can be on a separate database. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

Hi, Thanx for your reply. As per your email i understood that i can separate the mailbox database and it does not have to be included in the DAG. The problem here is that i do not have space on the DAG servers. so is it possible to have the archiving server separately where the mailbox role is installed but it should not include in the DAG. kindly note that i can not include the archiving database on the existing DAG server because of not having enough storage on the SAN and or on the Servers it self. I believe I answered your question. The archive does not have to be part of the DAG, so can be separate if you wish. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.
