Exchange Alert
Hi i receive a following mom alert. Provide me the solution based on below mentioned alert The transaction log sequence for a storage group is about to run out of available file names. Description: Information Store (4024) VS2_SG1: Log sequence numbers for this instance have almost been completely consumed. The current log generation is 1026000 (0x000FA7D0) which is approaching the maximum log generation of 1048559 (0x000FFFEF), there are 22559 (0x0000581F) log generations left to be used. To begin renumbering from generation 1, the instance must be shutdown cleanly and all log files must be deleted. Backups will be invalidated.

First.. Read this article. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830408/en-us Second. How many Storage groups do you have? If you don't have 4, it would be a good idea since the above is on a storage group. If you only have one now, and you move to four, it would cut your issue down a bit. Exchange 2007 doesn't have this issue, since they made the number far larger. Of course, they made the logs smaller, but oh well. Essentially, you are going to have to do a good backup (which won't be any good after you are done, unless the whole thing blows up and you want to start over in DR mode). They you are going to shut everything down, and Move the logs. It tells you to delete, but I would move and then delete later... After you don't decide to do the DR.

Hello I dont know will it be helpful as I think that your issue might have got resolved. Dismount all the mailbox stores in the VS2_SG1 and then go to the location where all the Transaction log files are stored. Move all the Transaction log files including eoo.log and *.chk file to any alternate location. Mount the stores, it will create new set of the Transaction log files with the new Log sequence numbers.
