Exchange 5.5 migration to Exchange 2003
I just started as the System Administrator for a local company that is still running Exchange 5.5. Our goal is to get this to Exchange 2007 within the next month. My question is this, in Exchange 5.5 we have several mailboxes that are owned by the administrator. Can we assign these mailboxes to a group, instead of individual users, and still migrate them to Exchange 2003?

As you know, you cannot upgrade an existing Exchange Server version 5.5 organization to Exchange 2007. You must first migrate from the Exchange Server 5.5 organization to either an Exchange 2003 organization or an Exchange 2000 organization, and then you can transition the Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2000 organization to Exchange 2007. Here is a good reference article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124008(EXCHG.80).aspx Regarding the mailboxes, what is the purpose of these mailboxes? I would associate each mailbox to aseparate windows account, and then add give permission to other accounts that needs access to the mailboxes. With this approach, ADC will have an easier job of pairing accounts and mailboxes in AD, and it will also mimic the administrative model used after Exchange 5.5 lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com
