Exchange 2013 Receiving Email Problem?
I'm rather new to MS Exchange, and i have set everything up from a fresh install. I have no problems sending email to most external accounts, I set up the send connector with some guides I found online. Anyhow when it comes to sending email from exchange to our current hosted email it does not go through. It might have something to do with the exchange server having the same address as our old email.. not sure if that's a problem, since I couldn't find anything online about that. Now as far as getting email to come through on the exchange server, I'm unable to figure it out. I worked with the receive connector by deleting the one that came with the fresh install, and made a new one that I though would work. When I test my exchange set up on testexchangeconnectivity this is what I come up with.. Testing inbound SMTP mail flow for domain Administrator@ashinc.com. Inbound SMTP mail flow was verified successfully. Test Steps Attempting to retrieve DNS MX records for domain ashincdotcom. One or more MX records were successfully retrieved from DNS. Additional Details MX Records Host maildotashincdotcom, Preference 10 Testing Mail Exchanger maildotashincdotcom. This Mail Exchanger was tested successfully. Test Steps Attempting to resolve the host name maildotashincdotcom in DNS. The host name resolved successfully. Additional Details IP addresses returned: 64.150.191.72 Testing TCP port 25 on host maildotashincdotcom to ensure it's listening and open. The port was opened successfully. Additional Details Banner received: 220-server.irqtube.com ESMTP Exim 4.80 #2 Tue, 14 May 2013 09:28:48 -0400 Analyzing SMTP Capabilities for server maildotashincdotcom:25 The test passed with some warnings encountered. Please expand the additional details. Additional Details Unabled to determine SMTP capabilities. Reason: Unexpected SMTP server response. Expected: 220, actual: 500, whole response: 500 unrecognized command Attempting to send a test email message to Administrator@ashinc using MX maildotashincdotcom. The test email message was delivered successfully. Testing the MX maildotashincdotcom for open relay by trying to relay to user Admin@TestExchangeConnectivity The Open Relay test passed. This MX isn't an open relay. Additional Details The open relay test message delivery failed, which is a good thing. The exception detail: Exception details: Message: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client, or login to the Type: System.Net.Mail.SmtpFailedRecipientException Stack trace: at System.Net.Mail.SmtpTransport.SendMail(MailAddress sender, MailAddressCollection recipients, String deliveryNotify, Boolean allowUnicode, SmtpFailedRecipientException& exception) at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message) at Microsoft.Exchange.Tools.ExRca.Tests.SmtpOpenRelayTest.PerformTestReally() any ideas on what i can do to receive email?

did you update it to Exchange CU1? i had similar issue with response 500, had to restart the Exchange Transport Service after all the services has been started. But i think you problem here is more related to SMTP Authentication on your recieve connectors: make sure on your Default FrontEnd Receive Connector, the security settings looks like this : If that's didn't solves the issue, can you post the security settings of all your receive connectors ?Systems Engineer & Solutions Architect Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you. You've established that the problem isn't the Exchange server. >however, i have no problems sending internal email or sending external email. only receiving external mail.. Well, let's start by asking if you intend for your e-mail to be delivered to IP address 64.150.191.72. The server at that IP address is running Exim, not Exchange, and it identifies itself as "server.irqtube.com". That server accepts mail addressed to the domain ashinc.com. Are you using it as a SMTP relay server? Is it your ISP's server? Is it a place where you used to have POP3 mailboxes? --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
