Exchange 2013 OWA and public calendars

The new reduced functionality of Exchange 2013 OWA public folders was an unpleasant surprise for my users.  (And for me.  If I had caught that in the documentation we would have stayed with 2010.)  We have a few shared calendars in the public folders that people really rely on.  Does anybody have any ideas for a substitution, 3rd party software, anything??

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

Exchange 2013 CU1 comes up with an option to add the public folders view in OWA. Are you running Exchange 2013 CU1?

Hi John,

In Exchange 2013, public folders were re-engineered using mailbox infrastructure to take advantage of the existing high availability and storage technologies of the mailbox database. Public folder architecture uses specially designed mailboxes to store both the public folder hierarchy and the content. This also means that theres no longer a public folder database. High availability for the public folder mailboxes is provided by a database availability group (DAG).

What's more, if your public folder of Exchange 2010  exists, you can migrate it to Exchange 2013. For detailed steps, here is an article for your reference.

Migrate Public Folders to Exchange 2013 From Previous Versions

Hope it helps. If there are any problems, please feel free to let me know.

Best regards,
Amy

Yes, we're running the latest version.  Yes, we successfully migrated our PF's from Exchange 2010.  Yes, we're able to view public mail folders on OWA.

As I said above, we're trying to view a Public Folder Calendar, which according to Microsoft is a new limitation.  I'm hoping for some alternative suggestions.

Thanks,

John

The Other option at this point for you is to create a room mailbox for those Public folder calendars

Thanks.  Room mailboxes look our best option for now.  I hope Microsoft will consider reinstating full public folder access to OWA.  We use it a lot.
