Exchange 2013 Edge on Web server

I just purchased 2 new servers. Both will be running Windows Standard 2012 R2. One will be used to run Exchange 2013 HUB/CAS (LAN) and the other will be a Web server (DMZ) hosting various internal websites (IIS/PHP). Instead of having a 3rd older server run Exchange 2013 Edge, I was thinking on installing it on the new Web server. Any disadvantages or no-nos?

Thanks

The Edge role can coexist with other applications...

for example:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/b5e37b2b-9835-49c3-934b-4c68071132f8/edge-transport-and-web-app-proxy-on-same-server?forum=exchangesvrgeneral

but I have to think that would depend on the applications. Some combinations could be incompatible or cause problems.

I'm not sure what level of support you would obtain in case of problems. If there are non-MS applications running, MS could say it's the other app and the vendor of the other app could say it's the Edge server that is the problem.

I am sure that MS does not test running the Edge server with other web applications (which ones?) in general: there's so many out there.

Just some interesting remarks on the return of the Edge Server (by Tony Redmond):

There won't be any web apps per se... 4 websites running Wordpress is about it. I know that Edge can't coexist with other Exchange roles, but IIS is not one of those roles... It would seem that since Edge is mainly an SMTP relay, there wouldn't be much interaction with whatever else might be installed on the server.

Hi,

In theory, there is no conflictions. But the performance of the server is hard to know.

Thanks,

I haven't done anything with the server yet but, given that we are a small agency, with little web traffic, I'll install Edge on the web server pretty soon and see how it goes...
