Exchange 2013 CU6 DAG Member update to CU9 fail !!

Hi all,

We start updating one of our DAG Member 2013 CU6 to CU9. The Setup Process take over 7 Hourse very slow and in the ExchangeSetup Log File we found many entrys like:

Processing file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Setup\Perf\%Catergoryname%.xml
The definition file for category '%Catergoryname%' is in use, the process will retry in 15 seconds. Retries remaining: 4.

And after 7h the Setup Fail with Error:

    Client Access role: Front End Transport service           COMPLETED
    Mailbox role: Client Access service                       COMPLETED
    Mailbox role: Unified Messaging service                   COMPLETED
    Mailbox role: Mailbox service                             FAILED
     The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();

Thank you for your question.

We should do some steps by the following link before we update Exchange 2013 CU6 to CU9:

By the error, Performance counters can become corrupted; so if you don't see categories in Perfmon, or they are missing counters, or names are replaces with numbers, you're probably experiencing this phenomena. To fix the issue, run the lodctr tool with the option /R from a commnd prompt with administrative privileges: LODCTR /R

This command rebuilds the perf registry strings and info from scratch based on the current registry settings and backup INI files.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the Answer. I Try the lodctr /R but it Fails..

C:\WINDOWS\system32>LODCTR /R

Error: Unable to rebuild performance counter setting from system backup store, e
rror code is 2

Any other Help?

Hi Jim,

a Restart from the Server and a second one LODCTR /R Success.

I will Try tu run the CU9 Upgrade proccess a second one.
