Exchange 2010 will not email to IMAIL server
I recently installed Exchange 2010 onto a Windows Server 2008. I set up the default send/receive connectors which allows me to send and receive emails from internet email accounts (ie. GMAIL and YAHOO). Within the same domain, I am also running the primary mail server which is an IPSWITCH IMAIL server. On the IMAIL server I created a Peer list, as according to their website which should allow it to talk to exchange. But nothing so far. On the domain controller I added a second MX record for the exchange server. Both the IMAIL and What I am trying to do is email from the exchange server to the imail server(main mail server), but cant figure out why they are not talking to each other?

Hi, Am I understanding this correct? You are recieving new mails from the internet on the Exchange server, but you want the server to relay them all to the IMAIL Server? If so, what are you using the Exchange server for? /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Not all of the messages, there will be about 10 or so accounts that will be on Exchange. But the rest of the 400 users I want to leave them on the IMAIL server. The reason for exchange is so that the 10 users can share an email account.

Hi, I think that would only be possible if there were a sync between the two mail servers so that each server knew what users were on each server. I don't know the IMAIL server, but as far as I can see there is no such connector. Alternative would be having seperate email domains on the two systems, but that would be a hassle as well. Or you could plan for a total migration to Exchange :) /Martin Exchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Just create a send connector in Exchange 2010 with a smarthost pointing to your imail server and add your domain name on the connector. Any email address that is not found in AD/Exchange will be forwarded thru the connector to imail

Here's what we figured out...and it works now. In the Send Connectors->Address Space. I added SMTP *.domain.ca,*,internet provider their mail server, and domain.ca. Also under the Send Connector->Network I changed the setting to route mail through the following smart hosts: mail.domain.ca(registered with a DNS provider) and mail2.visions.ca(registered with a DNS provider) and the ip address of the other mail server. Now its working!! Yay. Thank you guys for all the help.
