Exchange 2010 transition from Exchange 2003, Questions about UCC and SAN names
Hi Guys. Im having trouble getting my head around UCC certificates and which SAN names to use. I have read some articles on this I am planning on doing a transition soon from exchange 2003 to exchange 2010. Our current internal domain is called i.omicron.co.uk. The exchange 2003 server machine name is called omicronuk2svr The external domain is omicron.co.uk Firstname.Lastname@omicron.co.uk I plan on calling the new exchange 2010 server ONTUKEX2010 When applying for a certificate its asked for a common name, what generally is this ? When applying for a certificate I would need include certain SAN names including I have read somewhere the netbios name of the exchange server. So Would these names be ok to use. mail.omicron.co.uk webmail.omicron.co.uk (for OWA, Active Sync, Outlook Anywhere) autodiscover.omicron.co.uk legacy.omicron.co.uk to include the "netbios" name to the SAN list would I use ONTUKEX2010 or ONTUKEX2010.i.omicron.co.uk ? Thanks for your response. Jason

The common name would be the FQDN of the site so you could use mail.omicron.co.uk. Then in the SAN (subject alternative name) you would list all of the site names and the NETBIOS name which is ONTUKEX2010.Exchange & Powershell Geek View my MCP Certifications

webmail.omicron.co.uk (for OWA, Active Sync, Outlook Anywhere) autodiscover.omicron.co.uk (for outlook anywhere clients OOF/OAB etc) cas-server-name.I.omicron.co.uk (for internal mail clients OOD/OAB etc) Unsure why you would require any others for mail services? The common name would be webmail.omicron.co.uk in your case Kind Regards G,
