Exchange 2010 messages after removing Exchange 2003
I have removed our original Exchange 2003 server from our simple Exchange 2010 environment. I have also deleted the public folders from Exchange 2010 since we are using Outlook 2007 only. Everything appears to be working fine, except that I am getting two error log messages when Exchange starts up and one critical issue in the Exchange Best Practice Analyzer. For the two error log events, I have enabled logging, so these are the full fault records: Process Microsoft.Exchange.RpcClientAccess.Service.exe (PID=6780). Object CN=SMTP (APOLLO-{59DC9EB2-2911-4FEF-87B4-0D0C81D4297E}),CN=Connections,CN=Syntagm Ltd,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=syntagm,DC=co,DC=uk read from hermes.syntagm.co.uk failed validation. Attribute: SourceRoutingGroup. Error message: Cannot calculate value of property "SourceRoutingGroup": "Cannot get the DN of depth -2 from DN CN=SMTP (APOLLO-{59DC9EB2-2911-4FEF-87B4-0D0C81D4297E}),CN=Connections,CN=Syntagm Ltd,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=syntagm,DC=co,DC=uk.".. Invalid data: SMTP (APOLLO-{59DC9EB2-2911-4FEF-87B4-0D0C81D4297E}). and Process Microsoft.Exchange.RpcClientAccess.Service.exe (PID=6780). Object CN=SMTP (SERVER-{03D270CC-6072-4CF0-B157-3482F71EF9B2}),CN=Connections,CN=Syntagm Ltd,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=syntagm,DC=co,DC=uk read from hermes.syntagm.co.uk failed validation. Attribute: SourceRoutingGroup. Error message: Cannot calculate value of property "SourceRoutingGroup": "Cannot get the DN of depth -2 from DN CN=SMTP (SERVER-{03D270CC-6072-4CF0-B157-3482F71EF9B2}),CN=Connections,CN=Syntagm Ltd,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=syntagm,DC=co,DC=uk.".. Invalid data: SMTP (SERVER-{03D270CC-6072-4CF0-B157-3482F71EF9B2}). (APOLLO is the old, now defunct Exchange 2003 server and DC. Hermes is running Windows 2008 R2 as a DC and Exchange 2010. There is only the one server. The Best Practice Analyzer complaint is "Site folder server deleted". (I have deleted the public folders from Exchange 2010 since they are now longer needed. However, the Best Practice Analyzer seems to be pining for them: The site-wide public folder database for administrative group 'First Administrative Group' has been deleted. Current public folder store: CN=Public Folder Store (APOLLO)\0ADEL:59dc9eb2-2911-4fef-87b4-0d0c81d4297e,CN=Deleted Objects,CN=Configuration,DC=syntagm,DC=co,DC=uk. How can I resolve these issues? Thanks in advance, William

Hello Williams, Check the "sitefolderserver" attribute on the administrative group proeprties. the path is : CN=Configuration,CN=<DomainName>,CN=com, CN=Services, CN=Microsoft Exchange, CN=<OrganizationName>, CN=Administrative Groups Please refer to this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996485(EXCHG.80).aspx Thanks Mhussain

Hi, M. Thanks for your note. The article you mention is the one supplied as a link in the best practice report. The problem is, I don't actually have a public folder store anymore, so I fall at pretty much at the first hurdle. However, I did eventually find that someone else had two connector errors similar to mine having removed Exchance 2003. Deleting them with adsiedit fixed this for them, so that it what I have done. Also, since the recent MS blog posting said that deleting the somewhat defunct first admin group was not really as bad as previous advice had suggested, I deleted that too (although I could not work out for the life of me how to do this except in adsiedit - I did make sure it had nothing useful left in it first). The blog posting is this one - http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2010/05/05/454821.aspx Having made these various deletions, the error messages have gone away and everything seems to be working fine. Regards, William
