Exchange 2010 installation error on SBS 2008 managed network
I'm working on moving away from the SBS 2008 platform. I and am trying to setup Exhange Server 2010 on a new install of Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise so I can migrate away from SBS and upgrade from Exchange Server 2007. I am getting a single warning on the Exchange Server 2010 Setup that "No Exchange 2007 server roles have been detected in this topology" and this cascades into a failed install with the listed error below. I believe that I have successfully performed all the tasks in preperation of the Exchange 2010 installation so am lost at what to do next. Looking for guidance to overcome this issue, let me know if additional information is needed. -- Thanks, Greg. Installation error: The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); buildToBuildUpgrade-ExsetDataAtom -AtomName OrgLevelCt -DomainController $RoleDomainController" was run: "An error occurred with error code '2147942405' and message 'Access denied.'.". An error occurred with error code '2147942405' and message 'Access denied.'. Hi What service pack level are you on at Exchange 2007? Have you seen Exchange deployment assistant? If not, check it out, it's a nice tools that provides you with checklists http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/exdeploy2010/default.aspxJonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog

Hi Jonas, Thanks for replying! i upgraded this to Exchange 2007 sp2 a few weeks ago, I wonder if using SBS is causing me any issues. do you have experience with this platform? I haven't seen the deployment assistance, working on this next. i've been working on this for about a week and it seems that the basic install of exhange 2010 shouldn't be this difficult <sigh>.

Hi, Are you trying to install the exchange 2010 into your current SBS exchange organization? 1. Make sure that your account that used to install exchange 2010 is the member of Exchange organization administrator and local administrator group. 2. Run DCDiag to check if there is any connective problem between exchange 2010 server and DC.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Thanks Gen Lin-MSFT

Hi Gen, yes, i have sbs installed and that has the exchange 2007 sp2 installed. On another box, have installed windows 2008 server r2 enterprise and am now trying to install exchange 2010 on it so i can migrate away from SBS and exchange 2007. 1. Make sure that your account that used to install exchange 2010 is the member of Exchange organization administrator and local administrator group. I've completed these two tasks 2. Run DCDiag to check if there is any connective problem between exchange 2010 server and DC when i run DCDiag on the new server, i am getting an error: Performing initial setup: Trying to find home server... ***Error: hrllc-exchange is not a Directory Server. Must specify /s:<Directory Server> or /n:<Naming Context> or nothing to use the local machine. ERROR: Could not find home server. this new server is apart of the existing domian when i go to the active directory users and computers, this server is a member of "Domain Computers" and "Exchange Servers"
