Exchange 2010 in mixed org
Hi, We will be deploying our first Exchange 2010 server in a existing 2003/2007 organization. Reading over the various MS articles there is conflicting information regarding the need to Exchange 2007 SP3 prior to installing Exchange 2010. Is Exchange 2007 SP3 necessary? We are currently on Exchange 2007 SP2 and would like to avoid another maintenance window if we can. We are not planning on installing the edge transport role in 2010. Thanks, Marlon

Coexistence only requires Exch 07 SP2. So you don't need to upgrade to SP3. But ... Exch 07 SP2 is already end of support some 2 years ago. If you want a fully 'supported' environment during the transition, you need to upgrade to SP3. It really depends on whether you feel comfortable with unsupported SP2 (which you have been running for at least 2 years?) and whether you can afford the additional maintenance down time.

Thanks for the response Li, our plan is to retire Exchange 2007 shortly after 2010 is rolled out so no long term co-existence will be needed.
