Exchange 2010 domain prep of new child domain
Recently added a new child domain to an Exchange 2003 environment which has been prepped for Exchange 2010. Since I haven't deployed Exchange 2010 yet, do I need to run the following:1) Exchange 2003 domain prep2) Exchange 2010 preparelegacyexchangepermissions3) Exchange 2010 domain prepOr can I skip steps 1 and 2 and just run the Exchange 2010 domain prep? Would doing this allow me to create Exchange 2003 mailbox for user accounts in this new child domain?

You don't want to run Exchange 2010 domain prep until you've run the Exchange 2010 schema and forest prep steps. So I'd do steps 1 and 2 first and wait to do step 3 until you're ready to prepare the schema, forest and all domains.-- Ed Crowley MVP"There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems.". We already have completed about a month ago the Schema, AD and domain prep of all domains for Exchange 2010. However, we are still running Exchange 2003. All Exchange servers are in the parent domain. We just created a new child domain whose accounts will have Exchange 2003 mailboxes. My question was do I need to run the Exchange 2003 domain prep and preparelegacyexchangepermissions for this child domain so that the RUS gets created, or can I skip these steps and will by just running the Exchange 2010 domainprep create the RUS object? Thanks,Joe

I believe you can skip steps 1 and 2 and just do 3, but it wouldn't hurt anything to do all three in the order you listed.-- Ed Crowley MVP"There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems.".
