Exchange 2010 deployment affect on Exchange 2003 remote users during install
We currently have our Exchange 2003 users RPC over https and OWA pointing to remote.domain.com. We have installed our Exchange 2010 CAS server role and about to purchase our new SSL certs for the new exchange. The new users that we move to Exchange 2010 will be pointing to mail.domain.com. As a part of the process, it is recommended to purchase legacy.domain.com so that Exchange 2010 can forward 2003 requests to the exchange 2003 front end server. My question is the impact on the users currently pointed at remote.domain.com. At any point during configuration and deployment of Exchange 2010 will they lose access? That is a concern as we have remote users who are not always near an office with their outlook configured to that address. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks,

Depends on which version of Outlook they are using. While their mailbox is pointing to Exchange 2003 nothing should happen, particularly if they are on Outlook 2003. However if they are on Outlook 2007 or higher, then autodiscover might start playing a part. Have you configured the autodiscover URL as well for the new server? Great info. Thanks. Most are using Outlook 2003...and for the few that have Outlook 2007, I had explicitly set the RPC over https info using the remote.domain.net address, so hopefully they will be fine. I have just installed the CAS server...I do plan to purchase an SSL cert with the autodiscover domain configured through my ISA server. Thanks

Hi I would invest in a 3rd part certificate that's trusted Then you have it in place when they are going to use Outlook 2007 and newerJonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog
