Exchange 2010 child domain prep - cannot find recipient update service
Hi, I am installing Exchange 2010 SP1 for one of our child domain say: us.contoso.int. Tried setup /pd:us.contoso.int and it tells me following: Preparing Exchange Setup Copying Setup Files COMPLETED No server roles will be installed Performing Microsoft Exchange Server Prerequisite Check Organization Checks COMPLETED Cannot find the Recipient Update Service responsible for domain 'DC=us,DC=contoso,DC=int'. New and existing users may not be properly Exchange-enabled. Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server Prepare Domain Progress COMPLETED The Microsoft Exchange Server setup operation completed successfully. The domain is successfully prepared, however, I notice the issue with Recipient Update service. I think the cause of this is due to one of our US admin has accidently tried to install Exchange 2010 before notify us. Obviously he ran into errors and the setup been stopped. And somehow the recipient update service stuffed up. Now the server that US admin tried installation has since been rebuilt(That admin doesnt even remove it from the domain... I have to disabled the computer account in AD manually). So there is no way to proper remove the failed installation. I am not sure if a new Exchange 2010 installation will fix this recipient update service issue or not. If not, we will end up with Exchange 2010 with no mail enable users... Or is there a way I can manually add this instance before install Exchange. There is a MS doco for that. But the procedure is for after installed Exchange 2003. Not very help. I give you the link here anyway: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996277%28EXCHG.80%29.aspx - Edited after original post - I have since did some reading and find that RUS is only used by Exchange 2003, thats why MS doco only mentioned the way to create it in Exchange 2003. My understanding that I am getting this error is actually due to my root domain contoso.int has Exchange 2003 legacy version installed with Exchange 2010. So the Exchange 2010 installation in child domain warns me that if there are Exchange 2003 in child domain they wont be working, as RUS is not available in the child domain? Am I getting this right?

Just to update the thread. I was able to successfully install Exchange 2010 in the child domain without any issues.

Just curious..Did you just go past the warning or did you fix something?

Just ignore the warning. The RUS is required for Exchange 2003 only. You get this warning because there is trace of Exchange 2003 in your parent AD domain.
