Exchange 2010 can't display certificate

Hello,

We have a problem with our exchange 2010 certificate for the hybrid mode with Office365.

Server: "Windows server 2008 R2 Sp1" Exchange: "Exchange Server 2010 SP3 14.03.0123.004"

When we :

  • Try to display the certificate in the Exchange Management Console

OR

  • Execute Get-ExchangeCertificate

We have this error message (after what looks like a Timeout) :

The Exchange Certificate operation has failed with an exception. The error message is: The remote procedure call was cancelled + CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (:) [Get-ExchangeCertificate], LocalizedException +FullyQualifiedErrorId:1094CEAB,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.SystemConfigurationTasks.GetExchangeCertificate

Yet, the certificate is correctly installed (appears in mmc/cetificate) and works fine.

Do you have an idea of why we have this behavior?

Thank you for your help and comments.

Hi

Can you please browse your external ews url in your browser and see if you get a proper valid certificate in your browser to ensure that the certificate is installed correctly ?

So you are assigning the certificate through trusted 3rd party providers like digicert, godaddy or internal CA ?

You can also download digicert util tool for windows install them on your CA and see if any of your assigned certificates shows up warning in their console.

Hi, and thanks for your Help,

Yes, in a browser, the certificate is installed correctly.

It's a GoDaddy certificate.

And I have tested the certificate with Digicert util tool and it does not return error.

In fact, certificate works well in production (user can connect...etc.).

Yet, we worry about exchange console / powershell are not able to execute Get-ExchangeCertificate.

It sheds the light on a potential underlying problem.

Hi BapT.M,

Except above suggestions, I also recommend you check if there are any related error logs in your exchange server.

If there are, please post and it will give us some hints to troubleshoot the issue.

Best regards,

Hi Niko.Cheng,

I checked in our event log, and there is no error related to the certificate

In that case it may be a cache issue

Try deleting the EMC cache from the below console , reopen the EMC and see the results

<installation Drive>\users\user profile\app data\ microsoft\mmc \EMC

I have deleted the file : "Exchange Management Console" in

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC but the problem remains.

I've done a fresh install of Exchange Management Console on an other computer, and the problem is the same.
