Exchange 2010 Site Question
Our AD domain consists currently of a single site. We have a branch office which is connected by a T1 that I am considering deploying a RODC and making it a seperate site. Our Exchange environment is currently 2003 SP2 which we are looking to
migrate to 2010. I seem to recall in my readings that Exchange 2010 required a Client Access Server and perhaps even a Mailbox server in each site where users receive email. Is that correct or is my reading just running together? I would
prefer not to deploy any Exchange infrastructure in this branch so if that is the case, I probably would opt not to break them out into a different site.
Thanks

Hello
How many users you have on Branch site ?
I would recommend to manage all the users from Single site Centrally.
To manage the Exchange 2010 You have new features to use Like DAG,
redundant solutions.
You can give access outlook anywhere access to users who are in branch offices.

JF, you don't necessarily need to deploy servers in each site, T1 connectivity would as suggested by MMH would lend itself well to OWA which in 2010 has far better functionality than in 2003, it all depends on how many people you have in the remote sites
and how stable the T1 line is for you?
Exchange 2007 saw the breakout of Exchange into Roles and while not ideal you can deploy multiple roles on a single box the only role that requires seperation is the edge role, there are other advantages IO footprint of Exchange 2010 is far less and has
far more features around HA, BCP and DR scenarios so is well worth the move if these are required.

Exchange can't use a RODC, so if that is your plan, putting Exchange in to that location isn't going to work.
You only need servers in that AD site if there is a mailbox server there as well. If you are going to retain mailboxes in the central site then nothing is required in the other sites.

THere are about 20 users at the site. 4 of them use the full Outlook client and the remaining users are OWA users. I would prefer to keep everyone's Exchange managed centrally.

This is what I was hoping to find out. I really want to move the RODC over to the site for their authentication but not at the expense of having to grow our Exchange environment.
