Exchange 2010 Server Rebuild
We have an Exchange 2010 server that we're having trouble installing the CAS and Hub Transport roles on. Traces of each role were installed, but not in their entirety. Given the circumstances, what's the best way to rebuild the server? Was considering setup /m:RecoverServer, but not sure if this would address a situation where the Hub and CAS roles may not be installed in their entirety in Active Directory. Thanks.

Using that switch just means you're planning on building a new server from scratch but when running the install you use the switch so it ties it back to the AD configution since the object already exists. So in essence you would be installing all roles from scratch again. It's up to you to take this route if you've decided that you can't find the root cause of the failed role installs. Otherwise you can troubleshoot the failed installs if you can provide the logs from setup logs particularly any errors as well as more details into the history of the failures. <system drive>\ExchangeSetupLogs\ExchangeSetup.log.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Thanks for your response guys. The error I'm getting when installing the Hub Transport is below. I attempted several different fixes, but no joy. At this point I think additional time is better spent rebuilding. Based upon your guys' suggestions, I won't do the setup /m:RecoverServer. I'll do a clean build and reintroduce the Exchange server into AD. Question: Is it just a matter of uninstalling Exchange from Add/Remove Programs? Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Summary: 5 item(s). 1 succeeded, 1 failed. It's 2008 R2 Enterprise (no SP1). Someone in another office installed Windows, so not sure what media was used. We used the Exchange 2010 ISO from the Microsoft Licensing website.
