Exchange 2010 SP1 orphan OAB
I have recently migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and all has gone smoothly. During the process I incorrectly created a new Offline Address Book in Exchange 2010 (before I realised I could replicate the original one from Exchange 2003). I then deleted the newly created one from EMC and thought no more of it. Today, I have opened the Public Folder Management Console on Exchange 2010 server and found an entry for the "Default OAB" I created in EMC last week. All of my mailbox stores are using the replicated OAB and not the "new" one and when I try to delete this entry from the Public Folder Management Console I get error: Cannot delete the object '\NON_IPM_SUBTREE\OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK\/o=First Organization/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default OAB'. Please make sure that you specified the correct identity and that you have the correct permissions to delete it. I guess this is because the object doesn't exist (it was deleted from EMC last week) but there is an orphaned entry which wasn't removed. How/where can I remove this? I've looked in ADSIedit but can't see the orphaned entry in the Offline Address Lists container.

Hi, Based on my research, I found that the offline address book system folders are stored in Microsoft Exchange Information Store. Each time a new offline address book is created, the corresponding offline address book system folders are created, including the containers. The OAB root folder cannot be deleted manually and the symptom is by design. In Exchange 2007, if the folder is not used for about 7 days, it will be removed automatically. I haven’t found any resource about the issue in Exchange 2010. So, you can try to wait for 7 days and check whether the folder still exists or not. I already created a test OAB in my lab. I would also monitor the result and keep you post. For more information, please refer to the following article: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dgoldman/archive/2009/05/20/unable-to-delete-the-oab-system-folders-in-exchange-2007.aspx Regards, Novak Wu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi Novak, Thanks for your post. I'll wait the 7 days and let you know whether the folder is deleted or not. Thanks Chris

The folder was removed when I decomissioned the Exchange 2003 Public Folder store. Once replication had finished, replicas had been moved and I deleted the Public Folder store the folder was removed in Exchange 2010. Thanks for your input.
