Exchange 2010 SP1 DAG issue
When moving mailbox databases in a DAG from one DAG member to another, I get a warning message stating that public folder databases can't be moved. Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix for it? It only started happening after I upgraded to exchange 2010 SP1. I did apply rollup 1 in case it would fix the issue but it didn't.

Public Folder databases are not "DAG aware" and have no highly available solution. So you cannot move a PF database from one server to another using the database/server switchovers. Basically it is an informational warning only. More info: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb629523.aspxTim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

All you really can do and set the PF to replicate with the other PF on a different server.

Quote: “When moving mailbox databases in a DAG from one DAG member to another” How did you perform the mailbox database movement? Which article have you referred? Do all servers run the same service pack right now (exchange 2010 SP1)? Quote: “I get a warning message stating that public folder databases can't be moved” Please post the exact error information that you encountered, and also the error event in the application log on the MBX server Quote: “It only started happening after I upgraded to exchange 2010 SP1” Does the mailbox database movement success before applied exchange 2010 SP1?Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. To answer your questions, 1. When moving mailbox databases in a DAG from one DAG member to another, I used the server switchover command in the exchange MMC. Also, both servers are running exchange 2010 SP1 and update rolloup 1 has been installed on both servers as we'll. 2. The error message is "An active Manager Operation failed. The database action failed. You can't perform a switchover operation on database 'Public Folders Database' because the database is not configured for replication' 3. The mailbox databases move successfully now and before the service pack level. The warning message is new and I need to know how to eliminate the warning message and verify public folder repication is happening between the 2 public folder databases, 1 on each server in the DAG.

The symptom has been reproduced in my exchange 2010 SP1 DAG lab ======================= A switchover of server 'EX01' was successful, but with the warnings listed below. Warning: An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: You cannot perform a switchover operation on database 'PF1' because the database is not configured for replication.. [Database: PF1, Server: EX01.contoso.com] ======================= The symptom cannot be reproduced in my exchange 2010 RTM DAG lab I’ve reported the issue, and will post at here when I get any update Does anyone else has the same symptom, please let me knowPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hello, In SP1 the move command logic acknowledges the presence of a PF store and will issue a move attempt. Because PF stores cannot have multiple database copies, a warning is generated indicating a move is not possible. The warning is by design and cannot be suppressed. You can reference TWHarrington's link for general information on public folder replication and how to verify it is working properly. Thanks, Kevin Ca - MSFTKevin Ca - MSFT

Thank you for the information Kevin. I don't know why Microsoft repressed or didn't generate the warning before Service Pack 1 and then decided to issue the warning in Service Pack 1. Do you have any other documentation on how to verify public folder replication is working? The link he provided only tells how replication works and not really how to determine replication is happening correctly.

This is likely your best bet: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124411.aspx I don't have a step by step guide on hand to verify replication. I'm sure it is not exactly what you're looking for, but you can reference the shell commands to do exports from each PF server to compare replicas, sizes, item statistics, etc. Someone else on here may have something... ?
