Exchange 2010 SP1 - Outlook 2007-Outlook Anywhere client Out of Office issue
Hi, We have a Exchange 2010 SP1 Servers and OWA is published through TMG. We have observed that users who are connecting through Outlook Anywhere are not able to access(enable/disable) Out Of Office. However users who are connecting through MAPI are able to access Out Of Office without any problem. This issue is observed only when using Outlook 2007 client through Outlook Anywhere option to access Out Of Office . This issue is not observed when we are using Outlook 2010 through Outlook Anywhere as well as MAPI option, Out Of Office is working perfectly fine. Request your help to fix the issue for Outlook 2007 Clients. Thanks in advance.Regards Mahesh

Hmm. Suprised to hear that outlook 2007 is having an issue from only outside the private network but 2010 is not. In my understanding accessing the the autodiscover service which in turn will direct the user to the proper url for the Availability service is no different whether you are using Outlook 2007 or 2010. Have you verified that all permission on the CAS directories are correct in IIS and you have the proper urls setup in TMG in your publishing rules? Link to default permissions in IIS for Exchange 2010 CAS servers http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg247612.aspx If someone knows of any Outlook 2007 issue that doesn't affect Outlook 2010 in regards to TMG which may require a hotifx, please let us know. Mahesh, have you posted your issue in the TMG forum also?

Hi Christopher, Thanks for your reply. This issue is not faced in internal Network, hence i dont think there might be some issue with IIS CAS directory permission. We havent posted this issue in TMG forum, will check to post this in TMG forum also. Regards Mahesh

Besides creating a new thread in Forefront forum, please also troubleshoot the issue via following steps. Check the following known issues from Outlook 2007 side: ============== 954574 Description of the Outlook 2007 hotfix package: June 20, 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;954574 Error message when you try to open the Out of Office Assistant in Outlook 2007: "Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970123/EN-US If the issue persists, please open Outlook on the problematic machine and refer to the following steps to troubleshoot Autodiscover connectivity 1. In Outlook 2007, on the Tools menu, click Options, click the Other tab, and then click Advanced Options. 2. On the Advanced Options page, select Enable logging (troubleshooting), and then click OK. 3. Restart Outlook 2007, and then try to view free/busy information for another user. 4. In Microsoft Windows, click Start, click Run, and then type %temp%. 5. In Windows Explorer, open the olkdisc.log file and locate the files in the olkas directory. 6. The information that is contained in this directory can frequently provide information about which service is not functioning correctly. 7. Please post the log file here or send it to me for research. Thanks. Hi Novak, Thanks for the articles. I feel issue reported earlier is taking a different look when i got in to more details. In actual 1) In Parent Company there is a AD Dmain with ABC.COM and Exchange 2007 Organization with SMTP Domain as xyz.com . 2) Same company in different geo got another AD forest with EFG.COM and its Exchange Organization with EFG.COM,but they have also created another SMTP Domain as xyz.com and this xyz.com is configured as Relay Domain and not the authoritative Domain. Users are configured their mailbox with xyz.com as primary SMTP id. 3) There is a SMTP connector created to route the mails from xyz.com mentioned in Point No 2 to xyz.com in point No 1. Any external Domain mails will flow through SMTP Server in xyz.com of point No 1. MX record also pointed to SMTP Server in xyz.com of point No 1 and this is the only MX record for xyz.com. 4) In this situation, whenever we are trying to hit Out Of Office from Outlook Anywhere client which is part of EFG.COM AD Domain and user is having SMTP address with xyz.com, then OUtlook is trying to contact the the autodiscover.xyz.com which is pointing to the setup mentioned in Point No 1 -- i.e Where AD Domain is ABC.COM and Exchange is xyz.com, where in user facing the issue is from AD Domain EFG.COM and SMTP Domain xyz.com. Due to this complicated environment, i feel that autodiscover is not able to reach the respective virtual directory and autodiscover resolution. In this situation i feel that user left with the option of only WebApp/WebMail to use Out Of Office when they are accissing from Internet. Request your expert view and suggetion on this.....also one point which is troubling me that users whoever using the Outlook 2010 are not facing any problem. Kindly review and suggest. Regards Mahesh

Hi, Have you installed the update KB2412171 on Outlook 2007 client? If so, please temporarily uninstall it and check the result. If the issue persists, please perform the suggestions in my last post. However, if the user still cannot obtain OOF information, please capture the Results tab and Log tab screenshot on both Outlook 2007 machine and Outlook 2010 machine. Then, please send the screenshots to me for research. 1. While Outlook is running, hold down the CTRL key, right-click the Outlook icon in the notification area, and then select Test E-mail AutoConfiguration. 2. Verify that the correct e-mail address is in the box next to E-mail Address. 3. Clear the check boxes next to Use Guessmart and Secure Guessmart Authentication. 4. On the Test E-mail AutoConfiguration page, verify that the check box next to Use AutoDiscover is selected, and then click the Test button. Thanks. You may need to setup redirection for Autodiscover.xyz.com as it doesn't appear you have an external DNS entry for it. Also you said this was going through TMG's. How are the TMG rules configured?
