Exchange 2010 SP1 - Managed Custom Folder Not Displayed in Outlook
We are in the process of migrating to Exchange 2010 SP1 from Exchange 2007. Everything is going smooth but we are implementing Managed Custom Folders and MRM in Exchange 2010. I have tried to create a new managed custom folder several times using the documented methods in Technet. I have added the Policy Tag and Policy to the mailbox and have never been able to see the Managed Custom Folder in Outlook 2010 or Outlook Web App. See below get-managedfolder Archive | fl RunspaceId : 690a592a-a602-41c6-b389-a9727ea8c6be FolderType : ManagedCustomFolder Description : ManagedCustomFolder FolderName : Archive LocalizedFolderName : {} StorageQuota : unlimited Comment : LocalizedComment : {} MustDisplayCommentEnabled : False BaseFolderOnly : False TemplateIds : {} RetentionPolicyTag : {Test Archive} AdminDisplayName : ExchangeVersion : 0.1 (8.0.535.0) Name : Archive DistinguishedName : CN=Archive,CN=ELC Folders Container,CN=StudentMail,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Con figuration,DC=STUDENT,DC=DOM Identity : Archive Guid : 9c25c886-b6ec-463c-8d0f-062816bb9143 ObjectCategory : STUDENT.DOM/Configuration/Schema/ms-Exch-ELC-Folder ObjectClass : {top, msExchELCFolder} WhenChanged : 4/5/2011 9:19:02 AM WhenCreated : 4/5/2011 9:19:02 AM WhenChangedUTC : 4/5/2011 2:19:02 PM WhenCreatedUTC : 4/5/2011 2:19:02 PM OrganizationId : OriginatingServer : sisdomp1.student.dom IsValid : True

By default, the Managed Folder Assistant is scheduled to run from 1am to 9am every day you can use the EMS to push it as the following: To start the Managed Folder Assistant for a particular mailbox: Start-ManagedFolderAssistant –Mailbox UserMailbox To start the Manged Folder Assistant on a particular server: Start-ManagedFolderAssistant –Identity ExchangeServerName

When I run the Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -Identity UserMailbox, the command is successful but still no folder appears in Outlook. When I run the Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -Identity ExchangeServerName I get the following: The operation couldn't be performed because object 'sismbxp2.student.dom' couldn't be found on 'SISDOMP2.student.dom'. + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [Start-ManagedFolderAssistant], ManagementObjectNotFoundExceptio n + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 913B8685,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.SystemConfigurationTasks.StartElcAssistant Could this be the problem? If so, do you have any idea what needs to be fixed?

my fault buddy, in exchange 2010 SP1 the command can be run against user mailbox only and has been changed to be a throttle-based (Throttle-based assistants are always running and don't need to be scheduled) anyway, follow this it will give you full details: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638169.aspx

So I opened a ticket with Microsoft and we are waiting for the Licensing Team to open at 9:00am PST. I read multiple times and saw in the EMC that you need to use an Enterprise CAL for Managed Custom Folders and MRM. However I always thought this was an honor based setup. Our company always trues up our licensing every year with Microsoft based on these numbers. Support won't go any further with me until we confirm the Enterprise CAL. Seems silly to me if it is a honor based scenario. I know for sure I have an Enterprise server license but have no idea how to verify the Enterprise CAL. So that is now my question: How do I verify that I have an Enterprise CAL? Naser - thanks for replying.

Hi Wes! The Start-ManagedFolderAssistant cmdlet needs the identity of the mailbox instead the server identity. So maybe that's all... Greetings, Nils

Hi Wes, Per my known, we could not confirm the information on the server or client, maybe on some compact. Some information for you: http://www.microsoft.com/india/sam/lic_cal.mspx Regards!
