Exchange 2010 RPC client access service

Hello

I have a large exchange 2010 organization having 4 client access servers load balanced using a hardware loadbalancer 4 mailbox servers and three HUBs.

We have a team wants to communicate with Microsoft Exchange RPC and they are asking to configure 1 static port instead the whole RPC range.

I am worried of doing such changes since I am afraid of having any impacts on users please advise since I have the following concerns:

Does it  have any impacts especially on services like outlook anywhere or autodiscover since most of users have the outlook profiles configured as autodiscover and outlook anywhere?

Do I have to configure the static port on the mailbox servers as well or it is enough to do it on CAS?

Can I rollback simply by deleting the registry KEY entry ?

Appreciate your help.

You can follow this article below configuring static ports.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/864.configure-static-rpc-ports-on-an-exchange-2010-client-access-server.aspx

The services on server has to be restarted.

The load balance has to be configured to use these static ports

the outlook clients needs to be restarted in order to connect via static ports.

Autodiscover/ outlook anywhere does not impact as they are listening on 443.

Recommendation is to use static ports for both the address book service, and also for RPC Client Access.

yes - removing the reg key would then revert the server back to the default behaviour.

Not required to set RPC client access port on MBX server, but good for consistency for connection purposes.  Outlook clients will connect directly to MBX role for PF access.  There is no AB service on dedicated MBX server.

Thanks guys for your help.

Is there any article from MS that confirms that changes have no impact since I need to submit an official document to my management to approve changes.

Thanks again
