Exchange 2010 Pre-Deployment Analyzer - Error occurred validating the Active Directory logon credentials
I currently have a Windows 2003/Exchange 2003 environment (front-end/back-end) that I plan on transitioning to Exchange 2010. I have created virtual copies of my two 2003 domain controllers, the front end server and the mailbox server in a closed VMWare
environment. I have created a new virtual machine running Windows 2008 R2 x64 which I want to install Exchange 2010 CAS and Hub Transport roles onto. However I ran the Pre-Deployment Analyzer, selected my domain controller after the "Checking Network
Connectivity and Permissions" step I receive the error message:
"An error occurred when validating the Active Directory logon credentials. Try entering a different set of credentials."
I've tried numerous things (using our general domain admin account, using my own account which is also a member of Domain Admins). The Domain Admins group is a member of the local administrators group on the Exchange servers. I'm entering the information
in the following format:
- Active Directory Server: servername.domain.local
- AD server access username: admin-user
- AD server access password: password
- AD server access domain: DOMAIN (not domain.local, though I've tried that as well)
- Exchange Server Access username: admin-user
- Exchange Server Access password: password
- Exchange Server Access domain: DOMAIN
How can I determine what is failing? The error is the only output, and accounts that I know have access are failing.
**UPDATED**
Never mind, I guess. I set the AD server as just servername instead of
servername.domain.local and ensured the domain credentials for both AD and Exchange just had
domain and the tool ran fine. :/

Hi JGrover,
Any updates on this issue?
Do you follow Gulab’s suggestion to have a try?
If so, please post the permission you have on the Admin account.
From the error you got, this may issue for your logon credential, you can use other credential to have a try.
Thanks,
