Exchange 2010 Mail Flow Settings finds server that doesn't exist
I am installing Exchange 2010 SP1 on Server 2008 R2 SP1 for the first time in the domain. When I get to the Mail Flow settings screen, it will not let me continue until I select a server. Browsing does actually find a server, which used to run Exchange 2003, however we have not been running Exchange for several years, and this server is actually sitting in a store room gathering dust. I have checked DNS and it is free of entries for the decommissioned server, so I am confused about how Exchange setup knows that 3+ years ago it was out mail server. If I try to continue, the readiness checks fail with: Error: One or more servers in the existing organization is running Exchange 2000 Server. Please upgrade these servers to Exchange Server 2003 (or later) or remove them. Installation cannot proceed until existing Exchange 2000 servers are upgraded or removed. This could be the result of moving domain controller objects in Active Directory. Check that at least one domain controller running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later is located in the 'Domain Controllers' organizational unit (OU) and rerun setup. After I finish the setup, and reconnect the network for the readiness checks, I still get the domain controller error. This is the first time I am installing Exchange, so if there is any extra information I can provide, let me know. Jonathan
