Exchange 2010 Failure

I have just experienced a total failure of our exchange server 2010 standard edition. I have managed to get 3 of the 4 databases in a clean state and gone through the database portability for disasters, but am not able to change the attributes to point the users to the new databases. I have gone through creating the new database and copied both log files and .edb to the new location but not able to change the attribute. I have the old databases on an external drive and made the new databases on an internal 1 TB drive. I have tried the below but get no confirmation:

>Get-Mailbox -Database MB02 | Set-Mailbox -Database FMB02

I have also tried to create a new system from scratch and connected to AD, but now am unable to move the user mailboxes to the new database cerated.

Any advise welcome

Chem,

the Better option for you was to recover the server.

setup.com /m:recoverserver again

after the recovery the Databases can be restored on the recovered server.

refer to the Technet article for further info.

lets know if you need further assistance.

  1. Assuming you did not also experience a complete AD loss & the new server is within the same domain you should be able to utilize DB portability without issue.
  2. Unless there is some reason you wanted to use portability I would tend to agree that the best method would have been to of done the recover the server via setup.com /m:recoverserver as Shadab suggested.
  3. That said what are the exact steps you have taken to date?
