Could you access the public folder via OWA? Is there any related event in the application log, any related trace in the IIS log? If you try to access the public folder via URL directly, does the error page below will appear? 404 – File or directory not found The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailableJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

“The /public virtual directory will not connect to another Exchange 2007 Mailbox server because the Mailbox server does not support access to a /public virtual directory” ----------Refer to <Understanding Public Folders> Per my research, in exchange server 2007 and the later version, the direct URL access method isn’t supported anymore due to the architecture change James Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

So, how can you let search server search public folders then? It worked for exchange 2007, not for 2010..
