Exchange 2010 Connector / Mobile email SMTP
Hi, I'm having a headscratch that I haven't found the solution to currently, I have a firewall open with the relevant ports for imap, pop and smtp to my exchange server and I can see that the connections are accepted in the log, imap and pop access is fine, you can connect via a mobile device to it and download and read your email, smtp to send is not working, I have a connector enabled on the exchange server for the full ip range, the local server ip address and smtp port 25 and 587 enabled and it is basically allowing everything at the moment while I troubleshoot, TLS, Basic Authentication, Exchange Server authentication, Integrated Windows authentication, and all permission groups enabled, I just cannot get mail to send via the mobile client. I have a couple of connectors configured, how is the preference made if any rules overlap? I have enabled the verbose logging for my connector, but I don't see any events in the log file for my smtp send problem. Any standard guides or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Before we go down your path, can I ask why you are not using ActiveSync on your Mobile device? Tim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Lync 2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington

I've never tried it is the only answer to that, what would be the benefit?

Activesync is the industry standard for connecting mobile devices to Exchange. It will allow you to control the connectivity and provide the user with a rich experience (beyond pop and imap). Here are some links to get you started, ask some follow-ups after reading: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998357.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232129.aspxTim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Lync 2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington

Many thanks for the pointer, I have since completed the Activesync side and it's now working as I need it, so that is happily my solution. It does leave me wondering why smtp sending didn't work, but with no urgency on finding out why. Thanks again.
