Exchange 2010 Combined HUB / CAS Processor Ratio
Hi All, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee832795.aspx According to this article they give an example that on a 4 core processor the CAS will use 3 cores and Hub 1 core. My question is can I assume on a dual 6 core processor (total of 12 cores) that the same ratio will apply e.g. 9 Core for the CAS and 3 Core for the Hub? Thanks ECL

Hi Anil Thanks for your reply but what I am after is if combine CAS and HUB roles is on a single server then how many CPU CORES will the CAS use and how many will the Hub use? The reason for this is the Exchange Calculator is recommending that I have e.g. 10 Cores for HUb and 50 Cores for CAS. So to minimise on number of servers I am planning to combine the roles. hence I need to know if I install the CAS / HUB role on a 12 CORE CPU do we think 9 CORE will be used for CAS and 3 Core for Hub? Thanks ECL

The Exchange processor guidance is based on cores, not sockets. Also Microsoft recommends turning off hyper-threading on any Exchange box (because that's your next quetion). :) Mike Crowley Check out My Blog!

Hi I am still confused :) Extract from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee832795.aspx "Client Access and Hub Transport combined role server configurations can solve this problem and should result in more optimal hardware utilization. For example, if you have a server with four processor cores, the Client Access server role uses approximately three cores, and the Hub Transport server role uses approximately one core. If you deploy this in combination with four core Mailbox servers, the result is a 4:1 Mailbox to Hub Transport server role core ratio and a 4:3 Mailbox to Client Access server role core ratio. This closely aligns with the recommended processor core ratio guidance." So my question is if I was using a six processor core then how would it split the Cores for CAS and the HUB roles. Also what about if I had dual six core processors? Thanks William

Exchange does not reserve CPUs. The processes would overlap. These numbers are estimates. Mike Crowley Check out My Blog!
